Sumitomo（Shi）Demagsets up new subsidiary in Italy
Sumitomo（Shi）Demaghas set up a new subsidiary to service customers in the Italian market, effective 1 May 2018. As part of this measure, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Italia will take over the tried-and-trusted workforce from its former Italian representation, Macam Srl. and employ additional personnel for sales, application technology and after-sales service. Roberto Sallemi, former owner and managing director of Macam Srl. with many years of experience in working with customers from the Italian market, was appointed manager of the Italian subsidiary in Turin.

Through this measure, we ensure fast-track communication and a direct connection to development, project planning and production in Germany. Our customers will benefit from our consultancy expertise in key segments such as medical engineering, packaging and automotive.“

Over the past few years, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has significantly stepped up its presence in the Italian market.“Over the last three years, we have managed to increase our market share by threefold. This is the result of intensive sales efforts,“CEO Gerd Liebig explains.“The new subsidiary is the next logical expansion step. We have thought long and hard about ways of improving our processes and customer satisfaction, and finally decided that we need to set up a strong base in Italy, which is rooted in traditional structures but also invests in future-oriented service concepts and intensive consultancy.“

The parent company plant in Chiba, Japan, manufactures machines with small and medium clamping forces. Approximately 95 % of all delivered machines have an all-electric drive concept. The German Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s locations in Schwaig and Wiehe use hybrid drive concepts to manufacture the Systec Servo series, as well as the high-performance and high-speed El-Exis SP and Systec SP machines. The IntElect series with all-electric drive technology is also manufactured in Germany for the international market.
Sumitomo（Shi）Demaghas had a production facility in Ningbo, China, since 1998. The Systec C series with clamping forces of 500 to 10,000 kN has been manufactured for Asian markets in a new factory (13,000 m2 floor space) of this subsidiary, Demag Plastics Machinery (Ningbo) Co., Ltd., since mid-2015. In addition to injection moulding machines, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag provides standard and customised systems for parts handling automation, process engineering and solutions for special applications, and customised services, as well as machine financing options.
